Hello! Right now you’re reading “The Creator Confidential”, a blog where famous YouTubers share their stories and tips they have for growing a YouTube channel. Today’s post is something special and the first of a series called “YouTube from the Perspective of a Small Channel”. In this series, small YouTube channels share their successes and struggles, how they got their first subscribers, why they started, and more! If you want to be featured, you can send me an email (thecreatorconfidential@gmail.com) or DM me on Instagram (@thecreatorconfidential). Over the past week, I had the pleasure of interviewing Trina, and here is the finished result. Enjoy!
Introduce yourself!
Hi, my name is Trina! I am a teen youtuber/content creator. I started my channel in the beginning of March this year, and have been uploading consistently for a few months now. I’ve always wanted to do something like Youtube. When I was younger I would always pretend like there was a camera in front of me as if I was making videos, so I figured why not start a real channel. So I asked my parents and they said sure, in the beginning it was tough but now I love it more than anything. My favorite Youtubers are MissKatie and Sadie Aldis. They inspire me so much, they each have their own editing style and I love both. I make similar videos to them, mainly vlogs and lifestyle videos with some other videos here and there. Check out my channel if you want to keep up with me!
How did you, personally, become more integrated with and interact more with the YouTube community/fellow YouTubers?
When I first started my channel I actually didn’t meet other small Youtubers for a while. But when my channel started to get bigger I started getting added to small groupchats on Instagram, which I think is a great way to meet other small Youtubers. I also get comments on my Instagram posts and videos sometimes too and meet people from that. I always try to answer all my comments. I just love the small Youtuber community, I think they can be really powerful and supportive which is amazing.
How did you get your first few subscribers?
My first few subscribers were actually my two best friends which is super sweet. They have always been so supporting of me and my channel which I am so grateful for. And then, slowly, my family started subscribing too. Overall everyone has been super supportive of my channel which makes me feel great. I think engaging on other small Youtubers videos and leaving sincere comments will help form a tighter connection, which is what I have done and I have met some amazing people. And by forming a tighter connection we would start supporting each other which meant subscribing.
What's your experience with tags and SEO? Which tags do you use to help your videos be more popular? Any advice for people who have no idea how to use tags?
Honestly I am still figuring out tags myself, but I’ve been doing a lot of research on them. I just use tags that are relevant to my videos. My advice for people who don’t know how to use tags would be to first watch Annie Dubé’s videos because they are very helpful, then I would say to use the app Tubebuddy. Tubebuddy has an extension that you can use to generate tags. Doing research is also very helpful, I think in the long run the amount of time you spend learning about them will pay off. I am constantly learning new things about using tags, because knowledge is power.
Do you have any apps that greatly helped your filming/editing process/overall YouTube experience?
My two favorite apps for Youtube would be Canva and Youtube Studio. Canva I use for my thumbnails, they have so many options to play around with which I love. Before I edit my thumbnails on Canva though I use Facetune 2 to edit the picture itself. You can also use Canva for channel art which I do too, the possibilities are endless which is amazing. And Youtube Studio is a pretty basic one but very helpful, I use it to check all my analytics. Along with checking my analytics, I can also use Youtube Studio to edit certain things about my videos which is helpful when you are travelling. I can also respond to comments which is a lot nicer than having to open my video in Youtube.
Have you encountered any types of hate at school/online because of your channel? If so, how do you deal with this?
Thankfully I have not experienced any hate for my channel online or in person. I am actually online-schooled so I can’t really get hate at school. And I have not gotten any online which I am very grateful for. If I did though I would just know that they probably have something bad going on in their life so they are taking it out on me. I would pray for them and send them lots of love and positive vibes, and hope that whatever is bothering them gets better.
What are your hopes for the future of your channel? What will it look like 2-10 years from now?
I hope my channel will continue putting a smile on people’s faces daily. I also hope that I will keep being proud of the videos I make and post consistently. I don’t really have a goal numbers wise, I just want to enjoy the journey. In 2-10 years I am hoping that my channel will have grown bigger and people will enjoy my content still.
Finally, why should people subscribe to your channel?
Because all I want to do is make everyone’s day brighter. I try to give off very positive energy which I think is great for everyone to feel. I also try to make a variety of different videos too so you shouldn’t get bored watching the same things. And if nothing else you should at least get a laugh out of my videos. I hope you will check out my channel and subscribe so you can keep up with me :)
