How Alexa Skoros Grew Her YouTube Channel - The Creator Confidential

Hello! Right now you’re reading “The Creator Confidential”, a blog where famous and successful YouTubers share their stories and tips they have for growing a YouTube channel. Over the past week, I had the pleasure of interviewing Alexa, and here is the finished result. Enjoy!

Alexa Skoros currently has over 42,000 subscribers and 2.6 million views on her channel! In this blog post, she talks about how she started, which YouTuber she was inspired by, her top 3 tips to aspiring channels, how to attract brands, and much MUCH more!

What inspired you to create your YouTube channel and when did you start?

I loved watching YouTube videos and always thought it would be really fun to start a channel of my own, but what really pushed me to actually do it was watching Emma Chamberlain’s videos. I posted my first YouTube video on June 18, 2018 and I was 15 years old. I didn’t start seriously doing YouTube and posting consistently until I was around 16.

Do you think your family or background/where you grew up influenced your content? In a positive or negative way? Can you talk about how your parents or siblings affected your YouTube channel?

I think my family background/where I grew up did influence my content, because I come from a pretty big family. I also used to make lots of videos with my family members when I was younger because I loved recording everything.

I’m so thankful that I have such a loving family who supports my YouTube channel and whenever I need someone for a video, they are happy to help :)

How do you balance school and YouTube? Do you have any time management tips?

It’s not always the easiest for me to balance school and YouTube. A lot of people also might not know this about me, but I am a competitive dancer, which adds to my busy schedule. I just try to manage my time as best as I can and complete the more important tasks first. My favorite tip would be to just make a schedule of your day the night before. I try to write it out in my bullet journal or set reminders, that way I can be more productive with my day.

What are the top 3 tips you would give to small YouTubers trying to start a successful YouTube channel?

  1. I know it’s hard, but try not to care about what other people think of you, most of the time your friends will be supportive and if not, then you don’t need them as friends.

  2. You don’t always need the newest and best camera for your content to be good. When I first started my channel, I used the canon g7x mark ii camera and my iPhone. Even today, I haven’t really upgraded yet, I still have been using the same camera from the beginning because it still works perfectly fine.

  3. Lastly, try to always be yourself. Even though it sounds cheesy, it works, people like to see the real you.

How do you find opportunities with brands? Do you email them or do they email you? Also, this doesn't necessarily have to be about brands but: What is one of the best opportunities you've been given because of your channel?

I like to try and put my business email everywhere I can, so then brands can feel free to reach out to me. If it’s a brand I really want to work with then I will try reaching out to them via email.

I think the most surreal moments I’ve had is getting the opportunity to work with brands that I‘ve been supporting since before I even started YouTube and always dreamed about working with.

What keeps you motivated to create videos?

Definitely when I see all the sweet comments from my supporters, and when I watch some other YouTube videos that inspire me.

What's your favorite video on your channel and why?

I have a few videos that I really love on my channel, but I would have to say my favorite is the "dressing as different aesthetics to school for a week."

When you first started out, were you thinking about getting monetized, or was it just for fun/you were bored?

I wasn’t thinking about getting monetized at all, I actually didn’t even know how to set it up or what it was for the longest time. When I first started all I was thinking about was having fun and making people smile.

Finally, what is your experience with hate (in real life and in comments) and do you have any advice on how to deal with it?

When I started my YouTube channel I knew one of the things I should expect is getting hate because I’m putting myself out there.

I just always try to block out the hate because I’d rather focus all my attention on my amazing supporters than this person who is just trying to bring me down.

My best advice for dealing with hate is just trying to let it go and not dwell over what the person said. I try to get rid of all the negative energy in my life because negative energy attracts more negative energy. I surround myself with only positive thoughts, or I’ll read through some of my nicer comments and it will just make my day.
