How Amanda Rose Grew Her YouTube Channel - The Creator Confidential

Hello! Right now you’re reading “The Creator Confidential”, a blog where famous and successful YouTubers share their stories and tips they have for growing a YouTube channel. If you’re a small YouTuber wanting to grow your channel, you’re at the right place! Over the past week, I had the pleasure of interviewing Amanda, and here is the finished result. Enjoy!

Amanda Rose’s channel was started 4 years ago in 2016. Today, she has over 80,000 subscribers and 5.3 million views. However, her road to this successful channel wasn’t smooth and easy. It was filled with internal struggles and problems! However, she kept posting videos and continuing creating content for her channel and has not regretted a bit of it. This is her story.

"Don't get discouraged if your videos aren't getting views or if you're not getting subscribers, that's how ALL famous YouTube channels started."

What inspired you to create your channel? When did you start?

I started my channel right before my 13th birthday, which was July of 2016. I was super inspired by the other Youtubers I watched at that age like Alisha Marie, MyLifeAsEva, and I wanted to create videos like them. So, I got out my bad quality camera and started filming! Best decision I ever made :)

Do you think your family or background/where you grew up influenced your content? Can you talk about how your parents/siblings affected your YouTube channel?

I don't think it had that big of an influence over my content because I didn't necessarily create that much content based around living near Chicago or about my family. I think my background influenced my content more than those other factors because at the time I started my channel, I had a lot of other friends who had channels too, so I didn't feel that weird making videos because it was normal to me. My family supported my channel from the beginning, which I'm really thankful for. When I post a new video, I'll tell them right away and they'll all try and watch it as soon as they can.

How do you find new opportunities with brands? Do you reach out to them or do they just email you? What is one of the best opportunities you've gotten from your YouTube channel?

It's sort of a mix between me reaching out to them and them reaching out to me. For example, the first time I collabed with Princess Polly (which was my fave) I reached out to them since I saw a bunch of my friends making videos with them. But brands like Zaful, Cupshe, Duvolle, Casetify, etc. have contacted me first. I've tried looking through certain websites that have brand deals available but it hasn't really worked out in my favor.

Top 3 tips you would give to small YouTubers trying to start a successful YouTube channel?

  1. Make sure you're passionate about YouTube. If you don't have the urge to make new videos often, then you won't post consistently and your channel won't grow.

  2. Put as much effort as you can into your filming and editing-- that's what will set you apart from other small YouTubers!!

  3. Don't get discouraged if your videos aren't getting views or if you're not getting subscribers, that's how ALL famous YouTube channels started.

I watched your video where your YouTube friends vlogged their days and you compiled them all together! How did you connect with them in the first place? Have you ever become jealous of their growth when your channel's growth was stalling (if so, how did you get over that)?

Thank you!! I think for most of them I found their Instagrams a while ago and started supporting their channels, and since then we've become friends! I wanted to include people in that video that I was friends with and who I thought deserved more recognition, so I'm glad I could do that. As for the jealousy part, that's definitely my biggest problem when it comes to YouTube, so honestly I don't really get over it. I obviously am extremely happy when my friends are growing because it's what they deserve, but when my channel is losing a hundred subscribers in a month, it's kinda disheartening.

How do you balance school/life with your YouTube channel?

I'm really not the best with this. Especially since I procrastinate, it's hard for me to find time to film when I also have schoolwork to do. I just push myself some days and motivate myself by thinking about how happy I'll be when I finish what I need to do. I also sometimes have to prioritize YouTube over certain things like sleep or hanging out with my friends.

What motivates you to continue making videos?

I think my main form of motivation are the people who watch my videos! The messages I get about how I've inspired people and how much people love my videos are the reason I'm still making videos. Those messages make my day every time!!

Was there ever a moment where you felt like quitting your YouTube channel because of setbacks?

Definitely. I've gone through numerous patches where I didn't post for a while because I was stressed or didn't have any motivation to create videos whatsoever. But nonetheless, I continued and I'm so glad I did because of where I am today!

What is your experience with hate (either online in the form of comments or from people in real life) and how do you deal with it?

I honestly don't get that much hate, and when I do, it really doesn't get to me. I know that people have things going on in their own lives that make them want to lash out at others. I did get some "hate" when I first started because I told everyone in my grade about my channel, which was a bad idea because I started getting 15 dislikes on each video. But I don't mind the hate I get now because there are so many more nice and positive comments.
