Hello! Right now you’re reading “The Creator Confidential”, a blog where famous and successful YouTubers share their stories and tips they have for growing a YouTube channel. Over the past week, I had the pleasure of interviewing Lauren, and here is the finished result. Enjoy!
Lauren has had a passion for creating videos ever since she was 10 years old! She first created her channel, Lauren’s Beauty, at the age 13. Since then, she has gained over 43,000 subscribers and 4.1 million views. In addition, one of her videos (shopping for an iPhone XR) blew up with over 1 million views! In today’s blog post, Lauren talks about her top three tips for smaller channels, her family/background, and amazing advice on how to deal with haters.
“If you’re receiving hate on social media or in person, make sure to always remind yourself of your worth and your strength. You can’t control what the haters will say, but you can change your attitude and how you deal with the situation!”
What inspired you to create your channel? When did you start?
When I was 10 years old, I would create mini movies on my iPad with some of my friends. We would use our wild imagination to create short stories with our dolls and toys. I have always enjoyed filmmaking and creating content, which led me to creating my own YouTube channel when I was 13 years old!
Do you think your family or background/where you grew up influenced your content? In a positive or negative way? Can you talk about how your parents affected your YouTube channel?
Although I began my YouTube channel on my own, I definitely believe that my family has had an impact on my channel. I am so thankful that my mom, dad, and brother have always supported me through my YouTube journey. In addition to their encouragement, my mom has helped by filming some of my favorite videos, and my dad has helped me assemble collaborations and sponsorships with companies!
Around a year ago, one of your videos (shopping for an iPhone XR) blew up and gained over 1 MILLION VIEWS! When you first uploaded that video, did you expect it to gain so many views? Do you remember your reaction?
I always knew that iPhone videos can be pretty popular on YouTube, but I definitely did not expect the video to get as much recognition as it did! This was my first video that ever went “viral”, so this was a very exciting moment for me!
Top 3 tips you would give to small YouTubers trying to start a successful YouTube channel?
My top 3 tips for YouTubers trying to gain a following would be to have confidence in yourself, be consistent with uploading videos, and work hard on making each video the best it could be. These are the three tips that have helped me thrive on YouTube!
I know you have a second channel, Beautyful ASMR. Why did you decide to start a second channel? Would you recommend other YouTubers to do the same?
I started my second channel, Beautyful ASMR, to create ASMR videos (which are very different from my typical videos). I’ve always enjoyed watching ASMR videos, which prompted me to start this channel and make my own videos!
Is it personally hard for you to juggle school/life with your channel? How do you find a balance?
At times, it can be very challenging to balance YouTube along with my personal and academic lifestyle. Although education is very important to me, YouTube is my passion so I would never let anything get in the way of creating content. I make sure to complete all of my schoolwork early so I have time to make YouTube videos and spend time with my friends and family as well!
How do you find opportunities with brands?
One of the most rewarding factors about being a YouTuber is working with amazing brands and companies! Typically, brands will reach out to me via email with a business proposal and I will reach out to them if i’m interested. I only work with brands if I truly like the idea of their products and the message they deliver to their customers!
This doesn’t necessarily have to be concerned with brands, but what is one of the best opportunities you've had because of your channel?
Attending Playlist Live Orlando 2020 was one of the most rewarding opportunities I've had as a YouTuber. Being a part of a meet and greet was such a great experience for me, and I was able to meet so many other inspiring creators as well!
And finally, what is your experience with hate (in real life/school and in comments) and do you have any advice on how to deal with it?
Receiving hate definitely comes along with being a social media influencer. It can be tough and sometimes degrading, but over the years I’ve become better at staying true to myself and not allowing the hate to affect me! If you’re receiving hate on social media or in person, make sure to always remind yourself of your worth and your strength. You can’t control what the haters will say, but you can change your attitude and how you deal with the situation!
